Mink is very possibly Napa Valley’s finest Pinot Noir vineyard and it is a proven ager. The nose of the 2021 is a brooding medley of focused dark cherry, red cherry, cranberry sauce, fresh rose, mineral, nutmeg and baking spice scents. There is power, zest, tension, tannic grip and considerable minerality on the mid-palate, where hazelnut husk and licorice root join the rich layers of red fruit to linger through a very long if youthfully coiled finish. Although it is appropriately balanced for possible dinner service already, it will repay decanting and it should improve for at least four years and likely beyond. 279 cases produced.
