Connoisseur Tier

2021 Scribe Cabernet Sauvignon Atlas Peak West, Napa Valley

San Francisco Wine Panel Score 96+ Points

This terrific Cab is almost grapey to the nose, where Atlas Peak’s graphite and charcoal mineral notes take a full step into the background behind expansive, youthful aromas of black raspberry, cassis, dark sour cherry, pomegranate syrup, clove, cedar and dark forest earth scents. That fruit is focused and just as dominant on the palate, where blackberry and star anise surge forth will all the hoped-for flavor authority. The finish, long lingering and just as fruit centric, rises above a firming spine of polished grip and mineral-graphite notes which showcase the wine’s Atlas Peak origin. If delicious with darkly caramelized beef entrees right now, it will grow ever richer and creamier over the next 4-7 years. 504 cases produced. $99.95

Enthusiast Tier

2023 Outward Chardonnay Bassi Vineyard, San Luis Obispo Coast

San Francisco Wine Panel Score 95+ Points

Styled like an elegant Chablis, this classy bottling offers youthfully coiled aromas centered on lemon tart, green apple skin and golden fig, with counterpoints of hazelnut and saline minerality. Initially, lemon sorbet, apple skin and saline mineral notes take center stage on the palate, yet a richer core of fig, honey and vanilla cream comes to the forefront as the wine airs. The lingering finish is both zesty and strongly mineral, so this classy, versatile wine will likely show its very best at this point with oysters, mussels and the like. It is certain to be better still if allowed another year or so of cellar-time. 168 cases produced. $44.95

2021 Meadowcroft Cabernet Sauvignon Mt Veeder, Napa Valley

San Francisco Wine Panel Score 93+ Points

Appropriately zesty and well focused, this fine mountain Cabernet offers aromas of pomegranate, sour red cherry, cherry pit, hazelnut husk and dried herbs poised above a drying mineral undercurrent. It is youthfully bright and already quite flavorful, delivering both ample fruit and a balance of polished tannin in the mouth. The finish is ripe, food-balanced and super long, carrying it’s push of cherry, pomegranate, star anise, nutmeg, dried rosemary and mineral flavors to the very end. Medium-bodied and showing plenty of underlying grip, it will be even more attractive in another eighteen months and likely long beyond. 90 cases produced. $59.95

Explorer Tier

2023 Lapostolle “Cuvee Alexandre” Carmenere, Apalta, Colchagua Valley, Chile

San Francisco Wine Panel Score 92+ Points

Carmenere, originally a Bordeaux grape, has truly find its home in South America. Sweet natured and rich, the nose of this attractive example is ripe, well focused and offers impressive aromas of black currant preserves, blueberry, purple plum jam, black raspberry, clove, black fig and a hint of licorice. Long, energetically fruity and gripping, and just as flavorful as hoped, it is already a fine companion to fatty dark meats and will certainly get ever better over the next year or so and possibly beyond. Blended with 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Syrah. $33.95

2021 Dandelion Cabernet Sauvignon “Pride of Fleurieu” Pennisula, Autralia

San Francisco Wine Panel Score 91 Points

Fruity, fresh and forthcoming, the nose of this delightful everyday Cab offers an aromatic mix of blackberry, dark plum compote and black currant fruit, with genteel notes of vanilla and baking spice in support. It is medium-bodied and notably fruit forward in the mouth, where blackberry and black currant join cedar, hazelnut, bitter chocolate and a hint of sweet tobacco leaf. As the wine airs, the flavors seem to build, yet there is no suggestion of tannic roughness. An easy sipper, it will prove an amiable and versatile dinner companion. 1500 cases produced. $26.95

2023 Alfaro Gruner Veltliner Estate, La Playita Vineyard, Santa Cruz Mountains

San Francisco Wine Panel Score 91+ Points

Racy and firmly focused, the nose of this impressive domestic Gruner teams the sharp-edge minerality and fruit profile of classic Austrian bottlings to fruit and spice distinctive to its mountain vineyard. The nose centers on dried golden mulberry, yellow rose, peach pit, honey and mineral scents. In the through its mineral component. Stone fruit flavors dominate through its very long and satisfyingly rich finish. This seductive bottling will serve as nicely with sauced fish or fowl as it will with raw oysters and the like. 250 cases produced.  $33.95
